Brief
The College of Petroleum Engineering & Geosciences, part of the King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, was in need of a modernised, accessible web presence in-keeping with their new, high-tech campus.
The new responsive site needed to showcase a huge volume of content, whilst remaining easy-to-navigate, professional in style, and engaging to use. Once built in English, the entire site then needed to be replicated in Arabic.
Challenges & Solutions
The first challenge was to simply collate and get our heads around the vast amount of content that the website needed to encompass. Thanks to constant comms with the on-site Fleishman Hillard team in Saudi, our content team gradually unravelled the enigma, and a sitemap began to coalesce.
In order to ensure we had some web presence during this process, we went for a ‘quick win’ solution, using the signed-off designs to go live with a hugely scaled down version of the website many months before the full site was ready to launch.
We built the site using our own customised WordPress back-end, developing templates for the main navigation pages, biography pages and their aggregate grids, as well as the programs. The site also includes an event calendar with integrated registration forms, a news and media section, a blog, and a gallery.

Once the site was up and running, we embarked on the complex process of remaking the entire 200 + page website in Arabic. This involved updating all headers, footers, navigation functions and sliders to work from right to left, as well as right-aligning all text, tables, tabs and imagery.
Because of the large number of biographies, client requested that the copy for these remain in English, but within the Arabic framework, so we wrapped the content where applicable to ensure correct formatting for whichever language is being displayed on the page.
Language switching takes place at any time, on any page, with a click.
